Richard Nixon ex President of the United States of America once told us all ‘ there will be no whitewash at the White House ‘. That said one wag told me that with the current President you may find some bleach there.
That unkind remark followed in the footsteps of the President’s remarks about drinking disinfectant and getting this along with sunlight into the body to cure the Covid virus. in fairness his remarks were taken completely out of context and he became politically pilloried by those seeking to pollute his November reelection. Gracious people would wash their mouth out with soap and be kinder to the President who lets face it has the most difficult job in the world as he grapples with the virus and more dangerously delicately deals with a possible outbreak of war as tensions across the globe increase. The price of oil is now less than the price of bleach and probably sanitiser. The consequences of that could trigger a blood bath and not one with water and dettol.
Before we throw the baby out with the bath water surely it’s time to rally around at least the office of President even if some hate the incumbent. I don’t. I believe he has done a great job since 2017 and he has increased all our interest in Politics. His daily tweets on Twitter keep us all engaged and as I said on the Charisma podcast I think he will be re-elected in 2020.
Meantime on the subject of cleanliness and disinfectant the Chief Financial Officer of Unilever who sell all the soaps, washing stuff, deodorants and disinfectants reports in the weekend FT that sales are down 25% across the globe as the lockdown people attend less to personal hygiene. In the end then President Trump could be right we need to get out that disinfectant scrub externally and if we have a garden get out there and take in that sunlight.
There will no whitewash at the White House but you may see some extra mops and buckets making their way around the West Wing and Oval Office to protect all that inhabit. I can’t quite see Melania with a mop in her hand though, especially as she’s inside blowing out her 50 candles on her birthday.
Let’s stop kicking people and give praise and pats on the back. To create is so more difficult than destroy. Be encouraged lockdown will end soon and though the economy will have taken a bath we need to get going and put everything right again….and clean up all round.
