The party song ‘ Do the Hokey Cokey ‘ has the lyric ‘ put your left leg in your left leg out, in out, in out and shake it all about ‘ reminds me of the latest Government Policy. Do we stay in or go out , in out and shake the dice about. Are we gambling with lives or trying to save the economy all at the same time. Keeping the R figure below 1 and the unemployment figure down a challenge on both ends of the seesaw.
In fairness we must support our Prime Minister as he sits in the unenviable position of leading the nation when surrounded by divers uncertainties. Himself a victim of the virus and the surviving to be a Father again naming his new son Wilfred one wondered if he had yet recovered. The name Wilfred does in fact have Germanic roots meaning will and peace. One wonders if he chose the name to let the Germans know that at the 75th year post WW2 they were finally forgiven for their early 20th Century debacles at a time Wilfred was one of the most popular names in the land.
We still don’t know if Boris has fully recovered and whether his vague solution to the problem now witnessed is in fact the strategy of his right arm Mr Dominic Cummings and don’t forget the song ‘ put you’re right arm in you’re right arm out, in out, in out and shake it all about ‘. Has Dominic lived up to his name undecided about the comings and goings relying on chance, playing the odds. The conditional change has left people with more questions than answers. The real fact is there is no answer. The fact is what does one do when one doesn’t know what to do ? With two sides to the coin far better to toss it and we have to wait which side of the coin lands facing. That’s the policy that’s the strategy and that’s the best it gets at this point. History holds the answer but we know that life is lived forwards and only understood backwards, that’s what History is.
Meantime don’t forget Brexit, are we in or are we out ? With no deal in place yet for December and the clock running we could still be singing the Hokey Cokey in 2021 or going out with that much feared no deal Brexit. Wash your hands, stay 2 metres apart and stay alert that’s probably the best it gets and as the song completes ‘ turn around ‘ for your guess is as good as mine and I prefer the maxim ‘ when in doubt stay out ‘ and only go out if you really have to. No one knows and Boris, Dominic and Witty should be telling us that truth, gain the respect of the people and in coming clean get the support that they need.
