Lovely Rita, Rita Maid.

The reappearance of traffic wardens brought a veil of depression over me today as I saw that peaked cap individual crawling all over my car as I came out of a takeaway coffee shop at 8.45 am this morning. For weeks now I have been unable to get a takeaway other than machine coffee from the garage. Today I found a Pret open and had missed my 99 pence cup black filter injection. Alas along with that joy comes the give me £30 or even £50 for yellow lining. The man was doing his job but there’s a point on the graph when enough is enough.

The 313 Councils of Britain take in over £850m per annum from parking fines and with loss of revenue of £200m during Covid the yellow boys and girls are back. This is not really worthy blog material but it’s a rant from the frustrated who like many motorists are getting fed up with all the road traps, all the cameras and the Motorway 50 average. Someone who needs a PA to remember the dates of the MOT expiry, the Motor Tax due date and the Insurance. Today we need endurance more than insurance , the service date and don’t forget the odd breakdown or tyre burst. Those great heroes from the RAC and AA who appear like Angels when all seems lost. Owning a car is a nightmare without fun and A to B at average 7 miles per hour. Throw on top of that the Traffic Warden and it’s almost a nightmare. Then in the post a charge for driving 46 in a 40 limit is there a real difference, would you really notice if you’re trying to avoid killing a pheasant.

The driverless car can’t come fast enough for me to be rid of the bureaucracy and make them all redundant. We’ve had them for 60 years come 19th September on our streets and they are the bane of civilised society. Yes some will argue they avoid selfish chaos but in reality we need to keep the car out of all cities though it’s a no brain money maker and that’s why they will stay. If you’ve ever been towed away as I have it will cost you hundreds of pounds to retrieve your vehicle once I saw my car being lifted outside my own home. It was a mistake because my resident permit had slipped off the screen but convicted I was as it is law to display it.

Covid 19 is over the Traffic Wardens are back and the world is worse off again though the Councils richer. There were some aspects of lockdown that I will miss and no wardens is one of them. Lovely Rita ,Rita Maid was the classic 1967 song of the Beatles and featured on their Sargent Pepper Album. it’s lyrics were neat and simple but today McCartney would change them to Terrible Rita , Rita maid why are you coming to beat us.
