Today is the June quarter day, the day when the tenants of Commercially occupied premises pay their quarters rent. Alas if the last quarter is anything to go by circa 50% only will be in a position to do so. The Landlords especially of the large shopping centres have needed to remain patient, some themselves will be unable to survive, for example Intu Plc who by Friday may go Into Administration. The gradual reopening of the economy post pandemic is not without great risk but it is the risk to the economy that now pushes for a reopening.
Today is the fourth day of Summer the quarter that leads us from the new growth of Spring for nature to show in all its glory that for which we have waited patiently for. It is the season of harvest that will bring us to Autumn and the preparation of Winter. This quarter is the season of bloom where our best comes out, in colour, character and circumstance. This season is the culmination of all our preparations, our bedding down our waiting and now we see sight of all our efforts. It is the ‘ at long last ‘ , ‘ the finally moment ‘ when all is revealed. I stood last week in a poppy field that had suddenly become a sea of red and the flower which usually signifies remembrance spoke to me like a Red Sea that opened to walk across and into the new.
Today is the celebrated birthday of John the Baptist that man that went out ahead and paved the way. Though ultimately he would die because of what he said and who he became he came at the right time and his purpose was made perfect through his death. Summer too will pass but today the carpet is being rolled out ahead for you and all to experience. The Pandemic allowed us to hear the birds sing for the first time in a long time, rivers that had died sprung back to new life and Fathers normally in their 4 hour commutes were able to spend that extra time with the children they had so desired. The skies above, largely aircraft free now return and their roar and trail are back. Places of Worship can reopen on the Day of American Independence though as long as there is no singing. You can of course sing at home or on the way after all it is the season to sing to be thankful we got here and to celebrate. It is the holiday season when normally people prepare to go away to break from school but now we are called to go back and so we must if we are survive that virus called lack.
The quarter days have been observed at least since the Middle Ages and they ensured that debts and unresolved lawsuits were not allowed to linger on. Accounts had to be settled, a reckoning had to be made and publicly recorded on the quarter days. The day of reckoning is upon us the days of lingering over it is time to move on and into, onwards and upwards. As the days are warmer and the light shines longer make the most of this season and remain safe, remain diligent but go for it, grasp the nettle and be bold. Let the June quarter of 2020 be memorable, prepare that new way and try not to lose your head in the process. Be the change that is here embrace the culmination and engage to the full in all that you’ve been called to do. Let this be your ever special Quarterly Report.
