What a fabulous opportunity to play at the Home of Cricket, Lords. Yesterday it was the Villagers turn ( see You tune link ). As we all know if you hit the ball without bounce over the boundary rope you score 6.
The Rule of 6 introduced a week ago , plus the 2 metre distance rule , plus non stadium support seems to have all be thrown out in the gathering yesterday and if you watched this link like me you maybe bowled over. As people were being arrested in Trafalgar Square for gathering more than 6, up at St Johns Wood there were no boundaries. Throw in that the Police were there and suddenly the Authorities might have to field some difficult questions.
As a young 8 year old I was escorted from the Ground as I enthusiastically ran two feet over the boundary to return the ball to Freddie Truman the English fast bowler ( his sibling son married Raquel Welch’s daughter ) remember James Bond girl coming out of the sea .
Sorry diversion back to the cricket. If there were arrests yesterday no doubt they would have got bail but I am stumped to know why this Event was allowed. Perhaps the Government got caught out or perhaps ex PM John Major who has a Pad next door arranged it all. In the Pavilion those spectators look socially distanced themselves for like the Generals in the Chateau you can be sure that they protect themselves from the battles on the field.
All this aside I would have loved to have been there on such a glorious day yesterday with such fine weather. COVID-19 nor rain managed to stop play. Hopefully there will be no repercussions out of this event and no Covid Catches are in the score book. I used to live next to Lords before my ex wife ran off with the house and someone else took my early wicket as I left the crease after a nine year Innings. I still have happy memories despite that and occasionally still bump into my neighbour Paul McCartney on that long winding road to the Jewish nosh Bar on the High Street Harry Morgans to celebrate Rosh Hashana like yesterday new year 5781.
St Johns Wood home of Lords has a very large Jewish Community accompanied in the 1970’s with the Arabs when they built the Regents Park Mosque there. I was one of the few Christian Brits who lived there only by the WG Grace of God. Anyway that’s history and at Lords there’s plenty of it. Bradbourne Village won the Cup by 6 runs and no doubt celebrated in style after the match.
Rule 6 for one and not for another is just not cricket and if we are going into the second wave let’s hope it’s not the supporters Mexican wave as a result of The Lords Village Cup Final. Over and out then, all out for a duck, all caught or run out by that virus , LBW ( Lungs By the Way ). There must be some Wisden Wisdom abounding , surely ?
Someone might put a different spin on this story but in there somewhere I’m missing a googlie. Enjoy the You tube or fast forward it if you wish.
