Fear is defined as the unexplained emotion caused by the threat of danger pain or harm. The key issue is what an individual perceived as a threat.
In the Book of Job 3 v 25 we are told that what we fear can come upon us, overtake us which aligns with you are what you think. In these times one can prepare a shopping list of things to fear. For those in jobs under threat of job loss or those without work or without enough work will fear provision. At this time of pandemic the fear of some of infection is exaggerated and some folk have adopted the 22 metre rule or visibly panic if you get too close to them in the supermarket aisle.
Fear will lead to bad decision making and in moments of fear we can make completely the wrong decision thereafter compounding for years to come. Short term fixes with long term consequences. In America over 18m people are being treated for fear whilst in the UK there are 8m indicating that proportionately UK residents fear more than the Americans.
Excessive fear can cause a physiological change to the body , can cause cancer as worry dominates and lack of sleep to the insomniac causes bodily damage. What then is the antidote ? Jesus was very clear for in 2 Timothy 1:7 it says ‘ For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and of a sound mind ‘
In essence through our own spirit we have access to life without fear and the power to overcome those real or perceived feelings. You are and have the control in your hands and by taking command of yourself you can begin to rid yourself off the negative. Those that worry are often told to stop and allocate a dedicated worry time. You know take yourself in a corner and worry as much as you like for 30 minutes.,adopt a worry habit as you do gym time. Rest assured you will give up and then find yourself worrying less. Melanie Greenberg a USA Doctor says that 85% of what we worry about never happens.
There comes a point where one can become sick and tired of being sick and tired through fear. That place is called freedom and once you shed the fear you find the freedom. The brain is 38 times more active when you sleep at night and God works through the night Exodus 14 v 21 and before you sleep hand Him your fear. Then wake up next morning and see it gone or take a different shape.
Park your Fear today whatever it is and take a day off, develop the habit and stop wasting your life. Do something to help others , your neighbour or something and then watch your life change. Remember when you give you receive. Try it.
