Starry Night

In June 1889 Vincent Van Gogh painted his famous ‘ Starry Night ‘ oil on canvas. It was a painting of 11 stars in the sky and it was more famous because Vincent was in a Mental Asylum in St Rémy at the time.

The stars in the night sky is a spectacular sight and last night over southern England an exceptional night sky was laid out like a magic carpet in the sky. A real wow factor by any means and for me a reminder once again of our Creator.

It was the brightest starry night the Summer Triangle Vega, Altair and Deneb the latter brightest star in the galaxy. It was magnificent. Ok you missed it but it happens this time every year in the northern hemisphere.

In Genesis 26 v 4 Abraham was promised that his descendants will outnumber the stars and that the earth’s lands would be many nations. One way or the other we are all descendants of Abraham and number 7.5 billion at this moment. Astronomers reckon that there are 300 billion stars in the Milky Way but no one has actually counted.

One thing for sure there’s a lot of catch up to do to literally fulfil the Genesis announce but I think it was intended to tell Abraham your descendants you won’t be able to count. The fact is how many people can this earth sustain and with estimated world population according to the United Nations as nearly 10 billion in 30 years ( another wow from me as it represents a 10 fold increase in only 150 years ). At this rate when will we make that 300 billion number. Simple maths says that if 1 becomes 10 in 150 years then 10 will become 300 billion in 200 years, that’s right 2220.

If NASA, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk get their way some of those folk will be living on other planets and prophetic Hollywood and George Lucas may have got it right. None of us will see this ( certainly not on earth ) but it is a true phenomena. I’m happy meantime to look at this starry night out of my window as I write and realise we are but a cog in this great wheel, yet a cog of great value and not here by accident. All you need find out is your role in the sky of humanity and your place in these lands. We are part of a bigger picture than even Vincent painted but look today you’re in that picture and you just need to find out why.
