Was there anyone out there this time last year who could have foreseen the event of a global virus ? So much then for forecasting , foresight and forward viewing. Yet we get these prophecies every year, best guessing and roulette rambling. I remember going to a City Luncheon and listening to their Bank’s economic expectation. The guy may as well have been an alien. We have end time forecasting, last days listings but Jesus told us that no man will ever know when only God and He’s not telling when the horsemen of the apocalypse are saddling up. Fortune telling and crystal ball gazing is never recommended and inevitably a curse on ones life. Just ask King Saul or if you didn’t know him just ask me. Such excursions are bad news best of time.
What we do know is that times are a changing as Bob Dylan told us and it doesn’t take too much nouse to know this. Changes brought on by needs, by technologies and just plain being sick and tired of being sick and tired. What we do know is that we are all on earth but for a moment and in that time we need to find purpose and legacy. The reality is that no one is getting out alive. I knew once a New Zealander, Barry Smith who prophesied things like 9/11 and who saw the general economic drift way before anyone else I know. Another Grant Jeffrey told me about Internet 2 during a trip to Israel telling me that Internet 1 was to hook us in then 2 would come along for us to pay for it.
We are constantly being told of climate change the problem is that records haven’t been kept that long and though icebergs are melting I’m told Antarctica is growing. The birds seemed a lot happier last year and I think we should focus on being good stewards of the planet. If the Co Op are to be believed Public Transport including airline travel will be reduced going forward. More trees are being planted meantime and tree per person ratio on the planet is rising from 13 trees to one person to estimate 15 to 1. Let’s take a breath for a moment and appreciate that the Covid pause was no accident or coincidence ( there is no such word for coincidence in Hebrew apparently ). On that a retired Israeli Defence Minister in his latest book has confirmed the existence of Aliens and that Trump decided not to release the evidence in case there was mass panic. I can vouch for Trump that they do exist, one spoke at that lunch last year.
Anyway now I’ve told you that forecasting is nonsense let me tell you mine. Because we’ve printed so much money these last 11 years inflation must come in at some point to help the debt slate get wiped down. Meantime one puzzle is that China has negative inflation which is due to a demand fall and is not a good sign.
Bitcoin keeps going up in value ( I don’t understand it ) but I do know they don’t take it at my local garage yet. I do know we need to develop better ways to look after the poor and the elderly. We can’t keep paying the CEO of Companies $47m bonus payments like the guy Culp at GE whilst the workers with their families just about make the mortgage payment. Someone is Culpable. Thankfully the stakeholders are waking up to the issue. Management say his salary is 90% performance based ( the yes men would ) but could someone remind them that most of our pay is 100% performance based. GE get REAL.
I can’t see a slump in the business of Amazon and I really can’t see us going back to traipsing around the shops having parked the car and paid £30 to park and £30 to enter the City. I keep seeing lots of bikes in my sleep and at some point the Government will wake up to the opportunity to charge the Lycra brigade for use of the road just like the rest of us. Some will say it’s a tax on good health but it’s taxing us drivers every time we have to avoid the swerve of Merv and their often reckless wandering. I love those guys with baskets attached to their bike with their only kids in the basket. Do they really want rid of them ? With the electric vehicle arrival look to see more road use charging via an annual increase in road tax to compensate the loss of fossil fuel fees.
To mimic Churchill in accord with Boris Johnson’s great wish remember that after the War GB people got rid of him and after his so called Brexit success I see him going in 2021 as his colleagues have their ‘ et tu Brute ‘ moment. No problem for Boris he’s going off to write a book on Julius Caesar as he needs to make some real money to feed all those ex wives , kids and dogs.
I hope Theresa May is ennobled for her efforts on Brexit alone and as she told Parliament yesterday her deal was better than the one Boris signed, if only Labour had got off their fence and voted for it. Without a genuine opposition or one that votes in Parliament it will be ‘ lost Labour no longer loved ‘ another version of A Shakespearean tragedy.
Finally having been Netflixed out over the Christmas watching the never ending episodes of the Crown it must be a special thanks again to Her Majesty The Queen whose reign really has been victorious and such a gracious Queen holding everything together as it fell apart these last 68 years. God save the Queen is what I say and thank God for God.
