Sofa, not so good.

After my earlier blog ‘ Restoration Quickly ‘ matters Down in Downing Street worsen. The BBC and media keep referring to ‘ the Prime Ministers’ flat ‘. Really when did he buy it? I never saw it on Right Move or saw a Foxton’s mini parked outside or is he renting the des res without a view. The fact is it’s all nonsense , it’s the home of the Highest officer in the land, it’s holy ground not some ‘ flat above the shop ‘ as Tory grandee Grant ‘not so ‘ Shapps would have us believe.

Number 10 is iconic and the flat in Number 11 deserves better reference. Ok it hasn’t got a garage and it’s terraced with use of garden , it needs a cat to keep away the rats and a dog to keep away the cat. It needed restoration and there are rights of way over it. The fact is it is not ‘ the Prime Minister’s flat ‘ so unless he was completely stupid why would he spend his own money on doing up someone else’s flat ? ……..unless of course he is completely stupid. No comment.

The bigger question is what property rights does he have over the flat. If he’s not an owner he’s a tenant protected under presumably the Housing Acts. If he’s improved the property he had presumably done so in accord with the Landlord and Tenant Act . If he’s not a tenant but a licensee then does he pay a licence fee ? If he’s not paying any fee but has possession that maxim of being nine points of the law applies and for whoever the owner is may prove difficult to get back possession indeed to evict. The latter of course is through the Courts but I recall that procedure being suspended during lockdown. Hmmm perhaps he’s very clever after all.

The real issue is what rights does his fiancée have in the flat. As someone living there with full disclosure does she have rights. If she has rights then she has benefits , taxable benefits or does she still live part of the day in Camberwell. Forget Property rights does she have Family rights. Divorce lawyers these days don’t just ply their trade in marriage they have also entered the also deep waters of living together. Are these issues to be addressed or should we just Carrye on ?

On a day that the Times headline speaks of the ‘ Drums of War ‘ beating down under with China its even more ridiculous that from the flat where the war might be monitored we are still debating the colour of the wallpaper and who paid for it. We need to brush these issues aside, cut and paste over the reports and wake up and smell the paint. If the media continue to gloss over the truth and the BBC continue to paint a conflicting picture then we will need a full makeover, rid ourselves of all Downing Street occupants and reopen that bunker around the corner which by periscope has at least a view of the park. Now that’s des res stuff and facing The Palace. I can see the Foxton’s mini coming up the Mall. Sofa the moment let’s leave it there , watch the paint dry on all this and see who did finally pick up the bill.
