Today the 4th July I always remember as my parents Wedding Anniversary yet it is also in 2021 the 245th year since American Independence from Britain. Led by the desire to make their own taxation laws the 13 colonies sought Independence from Royal Rule across the pond and it took a bloody war to eventually achieve it.
Ironically yet without war Britain recently sought their own Independence from their European post war marriage with Europe. This marriage was formed after the fighting of two world wars when millions died . The hard fought peace was by referendum surrendered and no sooner we entered the global battle of virus and are yet to see fully the consequences of Independence. We do know that travel, taxation and rule will never be the same again as it was with America.
All of this occurs at a time when China celebrates its 100th Anniversary of their Communist party when all are supposedly brought to live on a level playing field only to find that the field has high ground for a few. It’s satellite Hong Kong brought back on to the field as Taiwan awaits similar outcome. Independence is ultimately lost as together is seen as better in the long run game.
History tells us meantime that nothing stays the same and Empires and systems change often dying through greed, avarice and man’s own natural heart of deceit. As humans our own Independence is achievable to an extent but we are found reliant on relationship and interaction be it physically or online we desperately need to connect to survive. The institution of marriage is constantly under threat yet the pursuit of it still reigns and in the 21st century is pursued by same sexes so vigorously that even the Churches begin to recognise it. Divorce lawyers are enlarging their future cash flow potential as anyone can now marry anyone. Of course the lawyers will not have their usual weapons in the form of birthed children but the pickings of same sex divorce through the pink pound will invariably be larger. Again we see the fight over money just as it was for the men on the other side of the pond those 245 years ago.
So on the day that America celebrates its Independence their Brexit cousins remain ready to sample being on their Island again connected only by that rail tunnel which has been virtually dormant these past 15 months. Meantime mankind seeks Independence from Planet earth as we reach other planets in the pursuit of new wealth and freedom from taxation bringing offshore truly with a new meaning.,Not sure if the divorce lawyers will have Jurisdiction on Moon or Mars but with Gretna Green shutdown by the virus we will need a new runaway haven soon. True Independence will always come at a price of course and be it tax or other sum or settlement there will always be a price for Independence.
