In 1842 the Seminole War ended the indigenous Red Indian tribe were moved out of Florida into Oklahoma. The First Opium War occurred leading to the establishment of the British Colony of Hong Kong. It was also the year that the Architect Sir Charles Barry remodelled Highclere Castle, immortalised by the TV series of Downton Abbey.

Barry who famously designed the Palace of Westminster at a time when Robert Peel was Prime Minister, a man that established the Metropolitan Police known even today as ‘ Bobbies ‘ or even ‘ Peelers ‘
Life in Victorian Times in Britain and following would be unrecognised today. Highclere is the home of the Earl of Carnaervon a descendant of the 5th Earl who discovered the tomb of Tutenkhamun The TV series featured the Castle as Downton the home of the Earl of Grantham and accurately showed it as a field hospital during the First World War.
Today the house is opened to visitors to assist with its upkeep. Hong Kong meantime is no longer a Colony and has returned to China territory. The Indiginous Red Indian meantime continue their fight for recognition in the land of the greatest and strongest nation on earth the USA. The Knights Barry and Peel have long gone though their life legacy continues to impact. The Artefacts of the Egyptian tomb remain in Egypt telling the story of that ancient civilisation.
History tells many stories of times past as we wonder that which is yet to come. The beautiful grounds at Highclere were designed by Capability Brown of landscape fame, Blenheim Castle and home of Winston Churchill. As for Grantham famous for the Railway and probably most of all as the birthplace of that other Prime Minister, Baroness Margaret Thatcher.
