Van Gogh drew in November 1882 this pencilled drawing entitled’ Worn Out ‘ at the age of 29 at a time when male life expectancy was 39. Vincent made it to 37. Recently found the drawing is now on Public display in Amsterdam.
The Cambridge dictionary defines Worn Out as extreme fatigue or of no longer any use, just like the man and the shoes in the drawing. Beaten to extreme tired by lack of sleep, stress , poor diet, overworked, overwhelmed and lack of exercise. We’ve all been there it’s the station on life’s line before Witts End. People will at some point say ‘ you look worn out ‘ neither a compliment or criticism , bushed by all that happens.
It is increasingly common as we go on overload from Opinions to Opioids, Blogs and Bogs , News and Booze, social media and scams. Worn out will turn up at some point and unless the antidote of Rest , time out, change of scenery, exercise and protein diet enter you too will joined the burnt out.
Clothes and shoes get worn out, cobblers and seamsters make their living from their repair but there will come a point where they do get binned. We all get binned at some point , average gender life expectancy now 79 years. Avoid Worn Out.
In chapter 40 in the Book of Isaiah it says- ‘ ‘But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.’
So you have the cure to Worn Out, I’ve given you the remedy and it’s worth taking. Try it when you next reach that station then soar on wings like eagles. Poor Vincent didn’t listen then again with one ear it would have been difficult.
