Paul in his Epistle to the Romans 12 v 14 says.
‘ Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.’
Justin Welby the Archbishop of Canterbury at COP on its opening day spoke about the world leaders ( presumably him included )
“They could have been brilliant in everything else they’ve done, and they will be cursed if they don’t get this right “
We see Paul the tent maker with good intent, canvassing one of 21 life instructions in his letter to the Romans, wise counsel from the reformed leader, the ex persecutor of those he now loves. We see Justin Welby the ex Oil Executive now seeing a different light after his road to Lambeth experience deliberately and by his own admission using language to incite action.
Perhaps Welby should have encouraged his fellow leaders to follow one of those other Pauline life instructions ‘ to hold fast to what is good ‘ verse 9 and then let see what God does in our abide. Call it faith or trust in Him.
Meantime other leaders come against great criticism as they fly into Glasgow in their private jets and other fossil fuel means ( can we really expect Biden to swim across the Atlantic ) or for Macron to walk from Paris.
Her Majesty the Queen did the right thing saved the journey went via Zoom to address the COP campers. Alas and despite Covid ways , face to face gathering is seen as the tried and tested way of doing business. This super spreading gathering will hopefully deliver the good that we can cling on to and avoid the curse to come.
