Showbiz veteran Lionel Blair dies aged 92
Many years ago I was told this story by a movie producer in LA. He told me that his friend was making a new movie and that Hoffman was in it. He enquired ‘ what Dustin ‘ , his friend replied ‘ no Justin ‘. He then asked who else was in the film, ‘ Newman ‘ came the response, ‘ what Paul Newman ? ‘ , ‘ no Saul Newman ‘
The movie was around dance and his friend told him that ‘ Blair is in it ‘ , ‘ what Lionel ? ‘, ‘ yes Lionel ‘. A silly story but true. Many years later while walking down Harley Street London I saw coming towards me Lionel Blair and could not resist to tell him the story. With great aplomb he loved it and we stood for a moment on the corner of the street chuckling together.
Rest in Peace, Lionel you entertained many people and for that we are ever grateful. Lovely report in today’s Times on the man. We have to laugh. Have a great weekend.
