Imagine for a moment being in a line of people. Those ahead of you your ancestors that had gone ahead of you and those behind you yet to come. Imagine the queue all taking their turn from the same seed , all doing their bit in contribution to the line.
I know a man who is the 17th descendant of the man who was executed by Mary Queen of Scots in London merely for printing the Bible in 1556. In the book of Matthew the first chapter we read of the 42 descendants from Abraham to Jesus Christ via his step father Joseph. By broad mathematical calculation we are around 90th in the line from Abraham. That’s right look ahead of you and you’ll see Abraham at the front on the line and Joseph about half way down. There are of course a few people behind you and we don’t know how long the line will be and yet to come.
The fact is we are all in a Generational line and we are all stewards of what we have from climate to possessions. We don’t take anything with us when we leave the line but pass it to the guy behind us , in the line of legacy. The fact is there is a line and I often think of what those ahead of me experienced and what those behind me will have to deal with. The guy at the front never saw anything we see and we will never see what the guys behind us will see yet each one in the line will be equipped to handle it and humanity has a great track record of adapting. In that there is hope in the line.
The line moves of course and eventually we board transit to the next destination which no one ahead of has returned to tell us about. For that you require faith and in that you can have great hope. As another year comes to a close the line is getting shorter ahead of you and longer behind you. For some it’s their turn in the year ahead. For those who are not sure where they are going it’s worth reading that book of Matthew and then see what happens to you in the line. Try it.
There are now sites where we can trace our ancestry but without the records we can’t ever trace too far back of course. The fact is a generation is about 40 years and most of us never knew our grand parents so we see perhaps two maybe three generations in our lifetime. Meantime just think of the line, it’s not that long and it’s running down and backing up. You’re in your line and as your there think about this. I’m just saying. Enjoy.
