2121

Looking forward 100 years what can we see ? Well sometimes we may need to look back to find out. In 1721 Bach remarried and Chippendale started making furniture ( we still have both today ). In 1821 the South Orkneys was found by the Geographic Society was found and the founder of the Red Cross in America was born. In 1921 fresh from World War One we had a flu pandemic to be followed by the roaring boom time twenties. All these things remain with us today and in one sense nothing really changes. Wars , rumours of wars, booms and busts, pandemics, tornadoes and other weather extremes remain. Music abounds, furniture flat packed for many and man still fights man.

Looking ahead to 2121 we can reckon that much of today will still be with us as history repeats itself. However technology and man’s ingenuity has caused changes like never before. In a hundred years we have gone from horse and cart to battery , from the ability to kill from a trench to fight in Space. We have gone from the Orkneys to the Moon and on to Mars.

President Andrew Jackson in 1821 was invading territory in the States owned by the Spanish now Spanish is a predominant language there as those of that tongue flood into there. This day one hundred years ago a tornado hit four states and 104 died just like last week in Kentucky.

In the town of Chelsea London where the blogger was born the place has been taken over by Russians, Arabians, Chinese and those that prospered immensely. This influx drive out the locals , property prices rose and the locals got pushed out. The coffee shops and restaurants are under foreign ownership as the working man’s cafe no longer works. That mix of rich and poor living side by side and needing each other in equal measure has gone. Plumbers, workers and Mr Ordinary can no longer be found.

The long and the short is that cultures are mixing , landscapes changing and there is a natural evolve which we can embrace in the new to come. None of us will be around to see 2121 but don’t fret you’ll be able to see it from afar with different perspective. Today is the start of another winter as the earth in the northern hemisphere tilts furthest away from the sun , we will see our shortest day. Enjoy the time we are here and all together, we are going forward onwards and upwards.
