Silicon Valley in Northern California is the home of the great techno and innovation Companies. Those there employ over 300,000 people and the area has the third highest GDP in the world. Any company birthed there is likely to end up big, even for a short time.
Theranos was one such company , a blood testing company that was indeed big for a time. It was a blood testing company that proved in the end to be a blood sucking company. The founder a young lady called Elizabeth Holmes was found to be fraudulent as the company floundered. Once valued at nine thousand million dollars the Company no longer exists after it was found that it’s single prick of blood was insufficient to test the blood as opposed to a phial of the same. Holmes now faces imprisonment and how she ever thought she could get away with effectively a dud product is the puzzle in my mind. Whilst the blood flows the scam unsustainable.
This Silly Con trick pulled in dozens of doyen investors and household names believing that Holmes was the next Jobs. The FOMO ( fear of missing out ) Investors poured their blood money in as Vampire Liz sucked the suckers. The large Pharma Companies never endorsed her product , the US Military refused to use it yet Walgreens the Chemist sold the testing machines in all their stores. Not only was money lost but people were diagnosed incorrectly. Sorry Sir but you have HIV when he didn’t, you need surgery when it wasn’t necessary. The Silly con did not only fleece people it fooled people. Holmes once worth six thousand million dollars had a child last year and that baby is about to lose its Mother another reckless move by Liz.
Companies of course can fail and Pioneers often get arrows in their back. However to peddle the fake is unforgivable though the real story is how she fooled so many for so long. As a movie is about to be made perhaps we will get a greater insight. Holmes was apparently very convincing with her deep husky voice and piercing prick eyes but for the greats like Murdoch, Kissinger and the like to fall for the con as the great Shepherds lead the flocks from Wall Street and beyond into oblivion. Selling the fake can make it but only for a time. It’s that FOMO that is intriguing, mankind’s greed in full motion. Sherlock Holmes would of course spotted Elizabeth Holmes and never have fallen for the Silly Con out of Silicon Valley.
