April Fool

A wag sent me the above today which is obvious as you are about to find out. I preferred to reply by sending him Psalm 14 verse 1 which tells us that only a fool would say there is no God.

Boris Johnson famously said this recently when he was asked if he was a believer and thankfully I know for sure I’m no fool. The origin of April fools day was in 1582 when France switched from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian calendar and the switch from the New Year’s Day. Those who failed to remember this became known as April fools and would sometimes have paper fish pinned on their backs as a sign of being easily caught out or gullible.

I know like we all do many fools and we come across many in our daily life walk. You hear say there is no fool like and old fool when and older man falls for a younger woman. We have all been fooled in our lives and we don’t need the first day in April to succumb. The dictionary defines a fool as a person who acts unwisely not necessarily a clown but acting foolishly. We have all done that of course and we need to be on our guard. Scammers rely on fools and the fake so be careful and don’t fall for these often digital approaches asking you to send money or open links. A fool and his / her money are said to be easily parted.

The good news is that April is the start of Spring, a time of change and new beginnings as we look forward to resurrection and the change that Easter brings. It is the month of William Shakespeare’s birthday and he’s 458 years old this month. William of course depicted many fools and jesters in his plays , for sure the fools have always been with us. Enjoy and don’t fool around too much.
