When going the wrong way, the satellite navigator in the car tells you to U turn, go back. Other occupants in the car ( my wife ) berate you at that point whilst others mock you ( the kids in the back ). Liz Truss knows that feeling but in James Bond style she pressed the ejector button and driver Kwasi became roadkill.
The other occupants hurled their cocktail of abuse, advice, schadenfreude and pious politic as the James Hunt of the political not racing world took the wheel. We then witnessed what has been described as the greatest economic U turn in British history. Liz apologized but a tad late in some minds as the repair shop told us we had incurred £150 billion of damage.
Nevertheless Liz said sorry and she was found not under her desk or cowering behind a chair but on BBC. Yes she didn’t arrive in time to address all the passengers on the Commons bus but she got there in the end. The Penny had dropped meantime as she held the fort , the wheel as she was bombarded by ‘ where is she ? ‘ pleas from the Opposition benches.
Her absence has still not been explained though some believe she was on the phone to Mr P asking him to u turn out of the big U. Some believe she was on the phone to Mr Xi before he takes his third term at the wheel suggesting he u turns on a great deal of issues. No one knows where she was but absence did not make any heart grow fonder.
The lady is for turning , she certainly didn’t turn up and she certainly u turned on tax cuts. Many now want her to u turn out of number 10 and the bullies may yet still have their way. Up her sleeve is the threat and ability to call a General Election to cause the demise of those in her own side to go down with her. With this in mind expect a few more u turns today. Some say she should simply resign and handover the wheel to someone else.
The problem is who ? Universal and International credibility has been lost , even the satellite navigator has terminated and we might be all better to get out and walk , take time and get there wherever we are going slowly. It’s not a time for change but time to wake up to the realities on the road ahead. At times like this no action or sudden moves is best remedy and that’s where we should be.
It’s time the opposition had a turn at governing. Under Labour there was much more growth than during the past 12 years of Tory mis-rule and now they are suggesting yet more austerity in which the less well off will suffer much more and the economy will continue to stagnate – all as a consequence of the car crash they have caused! Let’s have a general election and boot them out.
