Lest we forget.

The poppy the flower of remembrance of War came because the flowers filled the fields in the trenches of World War One. Today at 11.00 am we enter silence to remember those that lost their lives, so many lives for us.

The word ‘ Lest we forget ‘ is the banner headline over the day and the word ‘ Lest ‘ I had to look up in the dictionary earlier and as follows : ( a clause indicating fear) because of the possibility of something undesirable happening; in case.

The undesirable happening event of course is war and we know it keeps happening across the world. That is why we are called to Remembrance but in doing so know that it keeps happening and mankind needs to learn its lesson. The loss of lives, the immense suffering all products of the waste of war.

I write this overlooking my town square where folk are gathering before the Service, proud men and women wearing their medals and accompanied by their families, those that have lost relatives and stayed home alone never to see each other again in this life. lives withered like flowers dying.

Before silence reigns again at 11.00 this November morning pray that we remember, lest we forget of the futility of fight, the purpose of peace and future of failure to do so. Pray that warmongers are stopped in their tracks brought accountable for their acts and plague no more.

Silence. Then let us in the words of Isaiah let that

‘They shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”
