Uriah Heep

My colleague and I work with a man of sycophant character being ever so humble yet praising our every move. Like Heep in the Dickens novel David Copperfield , this man is ‘ ever so humble ‘. Not to be trusted the man slithers like a snake behind telling half truths and only that he believes we wish to hear . Fortunately experience allows us to work with and around him.

Uriah Heep was the law clerk to Mr Wickfield a partner of the practice perpetually drinking and manipulated by Heep to believe he had committed fiscal wrongdoing. Many people manipulate situations and the Bible describes manipulation as witchcraft as it intends to dominate another , controlling the same.

Manipulation is akin to negotiating of course but the latter is something to bargain and not leave a trail of dependent control. The perpetrator will often claim to be ‘ ever so humble ‘only coming to help ‘ and we must be alert to their wiles.

Some people use flattery to enveigle themselves into your life and or situation. Solomon in his 29th Proverb likens flattery to laying out a net to entrap you. We are all susceptible to the silk tongue but it is the silk of the snake at work and we are not to allow our insecurities to weaken ourselves. In the end of David Copperfield the inevitable happens and Heep is found out to be all that he really is as he heads off to Colonial imprisonment.

Uriah Heep is a perfect example of the fake personality that we will often encounter in our life Journey. Politicians are by nature always seeing to be trying to win us over and gain our vote of support only later discovering their shallow intentions and power pursuit. If you are being manipulated this Christmas refuse to take it into the new year. Rid yourself of that person around you and free yourself from the lie. It may be difficult but try you must for these sycophants only seek to burden and then usurp you in one way or another. Keep Heep away from your circle and draw new comfort from this blog , and avow to seek change. If on the other side of the coin you are the Uriah then stop now and try find a new self away from your constant insenserity then use your time for good to create not greed to placate.
