As we approach the days of Easter it’s worth remembering what happened. Jesus Christ tonight takes His last supper with his 12 Apostles in the Upper Room. One of them is about to betray him and within 24 hours one will deny ever knowing Him. Have you got any friends like this who have broken bread with you. I have. Later He goes into the Olive Garden of Gethsemane , the place of being crushed by the prospect of the next day.,He is alone as His friends can’t stay with Him and fall asleep. Know that feeling ?
Arrested and on the Friday He is brutally tortured and nailed to a cross. His death is for us and in reality we all killed Him that day on Calvary. Yes there are times when our actions often unbeknown affect and hurt others. The Romans do the dirty work of those ( His own people ) who condemn Him. Condemnation is the hallmark of many Religious Leaders , par for the course. In Jerusalem you can go to the High Priest’s house and visit the basement pit on the eve of death. Outside is the monument where Peter around the fire denies his friend. Meantime the other guy is betraying Him for 30 pieces of silver. Betrayal is cheap even these days.
Three days later and the only person to have ever died and return to tell the tale comes Resurrection. The tomb is discovered empty on Sunday morning and death has been defeated. Jesus first appears to the woman who comes to check that morning. Women are often the first to know and she spreads the amazing news quickly.
In our darkest days, our most anxious moments we must grab this event with both hands as it is the life message of the great hope to come and that nothing remains the same. Easter is the story of victory against all odds. It is the story of man’s failings , weakness, brutality, cruelty and ruthlessness. Jesus goes willingly to the Cross despite His great trepidation, He does it.
Easter arrives around the start of Spring when the flowers bud , hibernating ends and we see daffodils as we wander through them. It is a time of change of renewed hope and therefore be expectant and look forward to the rising in your life the summer days ahead and the knowledge that He paid the price and that at no price to you resurrection is there for you and all your loved ones. Give it some thought over the coming days and He will be waiting to hear from you just ask Him to come into your life and see the change. I did.
