It just doesn’t stack up.

Much of what we see today just doesn’t stack up. Little seems plausible as leadership , institutions and so much generally accepted. I was brought up seeing the chimney sweep come to the house and lay out white sheets then with big sticks climb up the chimney. Thick black soot powdered everywhere and the man looked like the chap out of Mary Poppins. The Clean Air Act of 1963 got rid of grime in London as we converted to gas heating. Old King Coal left the arena and Coke went up noses not fires.

The marvel of London was that it was so well built and we had craftsmen and tradesmen of the highest quality who actually built the stack. Now they arrive from a factory and are placed on the roof like those waiting to go on top above. It’s now fake and fast not made to last. We entered a throwaway world where temporary is too long and concentration spans diminished. When asked how you were folk stopped to hear the answer not it’s ask and go.

We now enter a new world of construction where 3D printers create concrete homes at one third of the price and before we know it that lovely craft of bricklaying will disappear. The order of the day is oven ready, knock ‘em out and flog em fast. Housing Estates are going up all over the country like boxes and what would the Romans say. Stack em high is the order of the day and the problem is we need hundreds of thousands of them to meet demand. However the house market just doesn’t stack up, first time buyers can’t afford to get on the first wrung let alone the ladder. The numbers are just prohibitive and the millennials and Gen Z will never buy but doomed only to rent the chimney.

Even the fiddler on the roof turned out to be a Mossad spy and nothing is what it seems. It just doesn’t stack up.
