Not so glorious for the grouse I say but today is the start of the 121 day shooting season that was introduced as law in 1831 within Victorian Britain. The beaters are out there literally the Moor the merrier. Speaking of Moors the infamous Hindley and Brady started their killing spree 60 years ago today in 1963.
Certainly a day for violence as Richard the Lionheart beat the Saracens in 1200 , King Billy at the Boyne in 1690 and the Russian tanks defeated German tanks in 1943. 12 is the number of Government which is why Jesus Christ chose 12 Apostles. There are 12 inches in a foot length which is Gross if there is 12 times 12.
Habeas Corpus ( the right not to be kept in prison without a trial ) was also made law on the 12th July 1679 yet today many are kept imprisoned without trial. The fact is in England and Wales we do have laws with rights and these freedoms have been hard fought for whilst today in the 21st Century many nations don’t offer fair democracy. We have all come a long way but for some not far enough.
Justice still cries out loud and humanity continues to disappoint not learning from history that violence and war do not pay. When will we ever learn. Yes it’s Orange day not the telephone company but for the Protestants of Northern Ireland who along with the Catholics still don’t get it that they serve the same God and that Rangers and Celtic are just football teams. Talking of football France won their first World Cup this day beating Brazil. They raided the Bastille two days later and hundreds of years on are still on the streets revolting.
Enjoy the day and if it is your birthday then happy birthday and join the illustrious Christine McVie in the celebration.
