Tonight 30th August in the sky above we have not only a blue moon ( a second full moon in a month ) but a super blue moon which is when the moon orbit is closest to earth. For some (like me that’s significant) , especially as it will not occur again for a few years..
I’m fascinated with the night skies and my app tells me what is what as I point my Apple phone towards the sky. Tonight I notice Saturn just north of the moon. Moon is the take for month as normally there is one full moon every 29days. The moon is special also as I watched A&A walk out of their spacecraft and epitomised one small step for man one giant leap for mankind. Charlie Duke was the youngest astronaut to ever go to the moon whom I was privileged to meet and who drove his car 7 miles journey from the mother ship ( very brave man ).
Blue or feeling blue is jargon for being a bit down in the dumps and it is scientific fact that a full moon can affect people’s mental health ( lunar tic ) or lunacy. The Marcels song Blue Moon is based on loneliness and the hope of meeting someone First written in 1934 many artists recorded their versions but I like this one in the link below.
Anyway I’m sorry to bore you guys but the moon appeared early tonight , the cold started to bite and Summer ( what summer ? ) seemed over. Another season , another era , time flying by and nostalgia settling in. In a month when India landed on the South Pole of the moon readying to set up home, the corner shop and takeaway restaurant, their genius displayed as Modi got Mooney. Congratulations India. Meantime NASA are sending astronauts back there next year and China are moving around on the dark side where no one can see them. The Moon is attracting many nations and it’s going to become a platform for takeoff to Mars.
There is no moon in the blue sky in the photo above but it’s up there somewhere around 248,000 miles away from earth and far away from Mayor Kahn’s new ULEZ charge., if you are minded go outside and see it in the night sky . Goodnight.
