Hope is the expectation of an outcome of something that you wish for happening. There seems to be an atmosphere presently as I tread the streets , listen to news and scan the scene of the absence of hope. In recent days I’ve met and spoken to many friends. The range since the weekend of one friend speaking of my negativity , with one friend who exudes courage from his disabling injury to another half way through Chemo / radiation treatment. My friends are from different nations and walks of life. From caretaker to chief executive, from housewife to career woman, from young and old there does seem to be a passage through a doldrum of doom.
My great Yanky friend is concerned about America and understandably so as Politicians fight each other in Courts and by laden , pugilistic politics. In Britain the hot topic is a railway line that we never needed along with boat loads of people we can’t possibly house. Wall Street experienced a fall today which wiped out any 2023 gains and bond yields which dictate interest rates went to their highest since 2007. Meantime the biggest fraud trial ever started in New York today as the Jury were chosen to either condemn or release a young guy in shorts and ragged t shirt with a bean bag under his desk convincing intelligent funds to follow him into an abyss. The Funds, the herd following the hope into hazard and loss. Sam Bankman looks likely to be Fried and Trump guilty of exuberance in valuations, so what I say as no one lost and valuation will always be an opinion not a science.
Though we all seem to be in a darkened disappointed state this Autumn we still have hope. The Bible tells us that a hope deferred makes the heart sick and we’ve all been there. When we persevere we develop character which in turn gives hope. Hope is free and it’s source is from within knowing in the words of the Bob Marley song ‘ everything gonna be alright ‘. David in the Bible faced many challenges as we all do and we are told that he pitched his tent in the land of hope. Hope is a choice and I for one am going to take it with both hands. Without doing so the glass is half full and I refuse it .
People are struggling to make ends meet and in the end they will get through but some won’t and yet they must retain hope on a rope and hang on in. If you are down tonight enter the land of hope and pitch your tent there. Though tears may come at night joy comes in the morning. Giving thanks for all that we have will breed hope and reaching out to help people in need will bring hope to others and you. Hope Hang the Hope around your neck take the Hubris of Hope with you wherever you go and look up and beyond to living happily ever after.
