On the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour we remember the fallen in the wars of the 20th Century. It is a day of remembrance and there are ceremonies across the land. The freedoms that those gave their lives for we dutifully respect but there are some in the land that they fought for now have no regard to do so. That is the world we are in and the world we have allowed to develop over a time when the world populous has increased seven fold.

We are running out of privacy , empathy and moment. We are running out of time to reflect and respect as mankind grabs the twins of need and more. We have surrendered to the wiles of life , we have learnt nothing as wars still rage and the fights go on. Mankind remains consistent to clubbing each other to death rather than clubbing together. Armistice from the Latin ‘ still ‘ will not be so in London for others will march up the road from the commemorative cenotaph chanting their own complaint which for them is vital. We in the land of Great Accommodation must accept that what the boys died for is exactly this and in the absence of graceful respect we must give way.

In the heat of the moment tempers can flare and mankind can revert to fight mode. The weather will play its part this November which has seen above average rainfall. On that day in 1918 and 1945 the weather was sunny and in southern England the temperature rose to 25 degrees in 1945.

I’m not quite sure what event will bring ‘ still ‘ to the whole world and a universal union that we can rely on free form rank and rancour , creed and colour. I suspect it will never come and if and when it does it will be too late. Perhaps this is why others seek for mankind to occupy another planet or are they simply wanting to escape the madding crowd.

The boys and girls that died will not have died in vain for each and everyone of them laid down their lives for us like Christ who gave his life to die for us all , all of our sins, shames and shortcomings. He too at His last supper took the cup and bread with His disciples ‘ in remembrance of me ‘ Luke 22v 19. There is such beauty in remembrance, such value in legacy and that which we leave behind is at the end of the day the most important. Fight tomorrow if you must but remember please if you will.
