The Oxford English Dictionary meaning of Advent is waiting the arrival of a noticeable person or thing. We are in the first week of Advent which spans four Sundays before Christmas Day 25th December. In the Church the noticeable person is Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
What noticeable person or thing are you waiting for today ? In business I spend most of my life waiting for ‘ things ‘ and I have occupied many Waiting Rooms. Generally when the waiting is over and the thing arrives there is an anti climax.
If I look back I have spent an inordinate amount of time in my life waiting and never really learned to be totally mindful to live in the present. Without having to wait one is possibly spoilt robbed of expectation or dulled by same old same old and in that sense I’ve been lucky to have had so much to wait for. I want it now has never been my mantra and time has conditioned me to be ever faithful patient.
I have never waited for that noticeable person and Jesus Christ of Nazareth I get hopefully to see in person when my organs shut down and the costume that I wear gives up. My eyes shut will be open though I’m not quite ready for that and would like to wait a tad longer. For those that don’t believe they are waiting to see someone and go nowhere other than recycled as a worm or tree . Sick no more I’m a sycamore sounds good and better than coming out of a bad orange or crawling on the ground worm to make you squirm.
Some are believing like the guy in the above photo that the end is in sight and after the year we’ve had 2023 you would not be blamed to believe he’s right. Anyway I don’t like waiting and I prefer surprises , surprises of good news something unexpected so in short don’t give me Advent or death but let Him appear now. And appear He does in the smallest of ways in the Dawn the sunset and nature. The wonders that we see, the birth of a child , the flock of geese on water, the landscape luxuriant. That’s life in full flow and something worth waiting for each day.
