Shortest Day.

At 3.27am today came the winter solstice 22nd December 2023, for what is the shortest day and longest night. It is the start of winter in our northern hemisphere. Darkness reigns supreme but the light overcomes as the daylight grows longer from here.

The seasons reminds us that change comes and so too in our lives as we change and our circumstances change. This is natural design and accommodates a time for everything. Of course the day does not shorten for the 24 hours it remains but it is the darkest.

One blogger I read earlier described this Christmas season as Stress Fest a time we encounter the greatest stress as we manage where will we be , who we will be with and how do we get there. For many it is not the time to switch off and lie ballooned on a sofa. The fact is we all need a pause in Proceedings a time out to quickly appraise 2023 and most of all what we learnt from it.

As I live I can still remember the smells of Christmas and retrieve those feelings I had as a child. There was for a moment an air of excitement and I felt inflated with hope and peace. The years have taught me to enjoy that moment and like my many mindfulness guru friends be in it. Easier said than done guys but ok I get it. One is a total non believer and denies there is a creator God and that we are celebrating the birthday of Jesus Christ, Salvatore Mundi, the light of the world who overcame all darkness.

I can see the sun rise just for a moment , the clouds that darken the rain that grows and the wind of change. As George Harrison sung ‘ Here comes the sun ‘ , here comes winter 2023 . Let there be light for He is coming.
