Though never mentioned in the Bible tomorrow legend has it that three wise kings arrive to see baby Jesus. It is the Epiphany and tonight is the twelfth night of Christmas. The legend is largesse as it accompanied by the star over Bethlehem. We know at the time of the birth astronomers have deduced that the rare twinning of stars takes place every odd 800 years or so.
The fact is they bring gifts of gold , frankincense and myrrh each gift with deep significance. We are told they bring that other rare commodity, Wisdom. In all my years there has never been a time where the need for wisdom cries loudest.
Where are the wise today ? They’re not in Government and it is rarely seen in society. The lack of wisdom dominates the scene which is why we are in this mess. Wisdom cries out to stop the ruination in Gaza and Ukraine for what happens next and how do the millions of people involved go forward from here.
Solomon asked God for the gift of Wisdom when he was asked what he wanted. You can find wisdom in the The Three Wise Whiskey cocktail mixed Johnny Walker, Jim Beam, and Jack Daniels. My neighbour loves wisdom as he downed single handedly a bottle of whiskey on New Year’s Eve and sank into oblivion for just a moment tired of the world and giving up on sanity. He is 90 and we are told to love thy neighbour but alcohol is never the answer. Yet the cocktail of narcissism, power and self seems a more dangerous one when we look at the leadership offerings for 2024.
Of course time may produce with AI a robot to lead us all out of the mess that surrounds. I have just a feeling that at the right time wisdom will step out of the shadows and solutions found. If you believe Tim Marshall in his most recent book the race to the planets Moon and Mars have all the answers and today the Kings need to bring us Lithium, Fusion without Confusion and Helium.
We need a new Epiphany that moment of great and sudden revelation. It’s coming and coming soon so be ready. Be prepared for great change, much needed and long overdue. Wisdom starts in you and it’s something you can ask for and exercise. That’s God’s gift to all of us. Take it.
