One of the first maps I saw as a young boy was a map of the British Empire. I believed someone had spilt tomato ketchup on the page only to be told that red marked the extent of Empire. Since then history has played catch up with the ketchup and the red stained paper has been virtually washed. The island of Britain reverted to itself and then gradually sold everything in the land.
The Great British sell off from roads. Railways, Council Houses, Banks, Energy , Media , Airports, Utilities , Retail stores , Online and On Street shopping all got neatly bundled and sold in a fire sale of emblazoned red.
Then we ended up with the influx of all those from Empire to make a 65m mix of Empire in House followed by successive Government of legal and illegal immigrants to swell the people’s coffers to 75m. Meanwhile we waved goodbye to Napoleon , Hitler and all the rest of Europe in Wreckit , Exit or Brexit.
Then I saw giant splodges of ketchup on the map in the form of China and Russia . I was told that the red represented Communism which was to be avoided at all costs. Gradually the Communists bought great swathes of Central London property and hired our peers to front face for their activities. They loved sightseeing and admired particularly our Victorian Church spires. The Chinese loved communication and entered the land their way and Huawei though anything remotely reciprocal was taboo.
The we sold our soccer teams , that weekly sport where the masses can air their frustrations and beat up others cheering on the overpaid gladiators as they themselves perished in their parishes. Despite all the battles and wars won by Drake, Nelson , Montgomery, Churchill , Charlton and Moore we lost.
Now with so many drawing on our biggest employer the NHS it is only a question of time till that gets sold. Does it matter in the end who owns what ? Can Harrods be moved , yes it can and they’ve tried and failed to do it. Can Selfridges and Harvey Nicholls leave the capital ? Yes it can. Can the Airports and commercial runways be resisted ? No but they can be shut down. Ultimately owners are only stewards but under British stewardship we have sold virtually everything and the late Great Britain now enters a new era. The great USA is the land of legal and illegal immigration and it’s doing remarkably well so there is hope ? The last laugh may well be with the sellers as the assets they acquired the trophies they collect may rust or fall in value , bought back from receivership for the Empire to rise again. Come on Rome , Come on Greece you can do it. Communism came to town, Labour to now takeover and all we feared came upon us. Job done.
