Reflection of Mum

Today many celebrate their Mother ( we all have one ) with us or gone , unknown or surrogate, with family or alone. The fact is for many women it can be a difficult day and it is those that today I write.

I once sat talking to a lady as she sat alone in an armchair in her perfectly neat house sitting next to a photograph of a handsome young man in military uniform. She told me of how she heard that a sniper’s bullet had struck him down dead whilst serving his country. Her days of motherhood, her only son and child gone left only with the hope of some eternal reunion.

Many mothers today have lost their children, at war , on stabbing streets of cities crime , through illness and early take. Many women have due to infertility not experienced birth yet there is still the mother in them. The word Mother is of course a noun and a verb.

Churches have children hand daffodils to their Mum but some in congregation are left empty handed and there is angst. There are single Mums who may have lost their husbands or who have chosen to do so yet they all need support and we can think of those. Many Mothers like the lady in the armchair have seen their sons and daughters go off to war in the various theatres of battle that presently prevail. Unsure of their return being a Mum is difficult.

I’m sorry for all those heartbroken women out there this day and whether your time is to come or has been remain steadfast in hope of better days to come. For those with their children today enjoy the time together for time runs out. My Mother long gone would be 97 today and I’m looking forward to seeing her again.

Our fabulous daughter planned an outing today alas her Mum took ill and I know they hate me saying but everyday is Mother’s Day and it’s all in the heart anyway. Let’s not forget to reflect on all involved in being a Mother, it’s a tough call I reckon. Let’s not forget those that step up to be a Mother and adopt or adapt in ever increasing blended families for to give birth may well be difficult but try giving life to someone, it just must be a tad more challenging. Yes reflect on all of this.
