Our title of the blog ‘ not many people know that ‘ is one of Michael Caine’s famous droll one liners and today we wish him a happy 91st Birthday.
When I met him he in droll fashion asked me ‘ what was it like sleeping with Julie Christie ? ‘ Totally bemused I asked him what he meant and he replied ‘ you look like f…… Dr Zhivago. I’d say more Omar God than Omar Sharif.
I loved Caine in Alfie ( 1966 ). He remains my London hero. ( or at least one of them) . The point I wish to make is that Rita Tushingham shares at 82 todays birthday. Rita played Zhivago’s dedicated wife in the movie notwithstanding his dedication to Julie as his mistress. A brilliant actress whose 1961 movie ‘ A taste of Honey ‘ is legendary. Unfortunately I never met Rita ( not yet anyway )
Not many people know this. Well you do now. Happy Birthday Michael and Rita with great gratitude for all your works and for making life a little more interesting.
