Returning from Gatwick Airport on a surprisingly clear M25 travelling at 70mph a light flashed behind me. Several weeks later Surrey Police wrote to say I had gone through a 60mph speed limit. Pay up and 3 points on your licence or pay up to attend an online Speed Awareness Course. I opted for the latter and online I went at 7.45 to start at 8.00.,I checked in showed my ID and was told the Course would start at 8.20 but to stay online. Nothing happened and at 8.37 I called Drivetech the Company that run the course. Sorry Sir it must have been an IT error I was told but you’ve missed the Course. I now am told have to sign up for another one. What’s happening in Britain nothing much works and we are all out there waiting to be captured , fined and tortured by the threats of the system.
Speaking of crime the great escape of O J Simpson in 1995 when acquitted of a double murder. Part of the defence was to get him to try fit on a hat and gloves found at the scene. His lawyer famously said ‘ if they don’t fit you must acquit ‘ . OJ struggled to put them on and was acquitted. There was a wag who told a story that two years later OJ returned to the Court to ask the Court Clerk if he could have his hat and gloves back.
Law is all about precedent and I just wonder if I can plea to Surrey Police that ‘ if the IT don’t fit you must acquit ‘ . Ok guys the OJ case is different but he must have broken every speed limit in question when he sped away on the Highway chased by the American Police. I’m sure he was never given a ticket , took three points or was made go the Drivetech to Driveyoumad.
