A recent study by Cornell University found that 85% of what we worry about never happens. Why then has the spirit of fear gripped the globe probably like never before.
Humanity is not a lover of change, depression levels are rife high amongst 12 to 25 year olds and multiple choice with social media is giving rise to bondage not freedom.
The election of Donald Trump as one example has increased fear amongst other nations and in particular the African Americans. The unpredictability and trump threat syndrome is here. The Oxford Dictionary defines fear as :
an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm.
Zig Ziglar defined it as being dealt with in two ways the choice is yours. Job of Bible fame tells us that what we fear will come upon us Job 3 v 25 and truly we can take the avenue of anxiety into the house of fear. Mindfulness and being in the present is one combatant and I highly recommend it’s practice. To conquer your fears is an achievement and we must learn to beat the bug ( don’t let the buggers get you down )
During the Covid pandemic my neighbour was so concerned of shortage that she filled her garage with toilet rolls. In passing I mentioned the product and she took me to her garage and said I could help myself at any time. I thanked her profusely but explained that I was unlikely to roll up any time soon.
In fear mode our blood pressure and heart rate rises , fear is bad for our health and so is constipation I guess. We live in uncertain times but why do we need to know the safety of every outcome when life should ready itself to embrace the unexpected. Surprises are part of life and studying DNA to see the likely cause of our demise is nonsense.

When we learn to cast away the fear and live in the moment our lives will be better. Dictators bred fear to control the masses and Dictators like Joe Stalin killed over 1 million people in his reign of terror. Horrible Hitler another nasty brought fear through 8 minutes of initial silence in his Rally speeches and my old Headmaster traded fear in us all as he flexed his cane walking up and down the classroom floor as a boy.
Many an Industrial enterprise allowed fear to manage the work force with the threat of redundancy if anyone stepped out of line on to the bread line. So my friends think Cornell as you approach another week, recognise that you are on a one way street towards the exit door and there can be no u turns on the street named Life.
If you don’t want to take my advice then just listen to Bob Marley and he will give you the necessary antidote .
Try it.
