The Archbishop of Canterbury is head of the Church of England that Church founded on the divorce of a King Henry 8 ) whose own marital relationships did not tie in with the Papal Roman Catholics of the time.
A few hundred years earlier in 1170 another King deposed of Thomas Beckett at the executioner’s hand at the altar of Canterbury. Then in 1556 Cranmer the Archbishop of Canterbury was burned alive at the stake on the orders of Catholic Mary Queen of Scots.
These modern days Kings don’t resort to drastic actions of disposal but delicately deal with it . And probably so it was when Justin Welby called the King yesterday morning. Resignation soon followed and Justin reached the pinnacle of his career when he headlined momentarily in the world’s press. Something that he longed for , notoriety at last , seen by Joe Public everywhere, for throughout his office he sought publicity and oh boy he got it.
In fairness Justin was not the culprit but was held culpable for hiding him. Yes it was an ex Judge John Smyth QC and executioner who flogged young men in Christian Camps. The floggings were vicious designed to instil discipline in the boys and as the blood ran down their bare legs became victims of this man. Justin had failed to bring this to the attention of the Authorities who could have stopped the whippings in the shed allegedly inflicted on 130 boys. Alas Smyth left Britain funded by the Church and plied his perversions in Africa , where one young man died.
Justin had his own problems as a boy not knowing his real father till later in life and a man who suffered from great depression. His conscience must have troubled him when he accepted the post of ABC but he was never going to make it in the oil business and chose a different slick. His rise to the top of his trade was meteoric but he never matched the job. The choice of ABC is in the ultimate hands of the Prime Minister and whoever follows will be chosen by that other lawyer Starmer who doesn’t even believe in God.
Smyth never lived to face those he whipped or for them to see true justice. These poor boys now men are traumatised forever and post the Makin Report which eventually sunk Justin will no doubt see fiscal compensation from the Church of England who will doubtless need a much larger whip around to settle , anal pain eased, blood dried and minds mended. Benevolent Justin wanted to repatriate those that suffered from the slave trade another industry served up by the Church at the time and £1billion earmarked. Add another £billion for the boys and soon they will need to liquidate the £12billion Church Hedge Fund.
Sex again is the scandal and the desires of man lead to the altar of angst. Calls for Reformation are now being heard and we can’t go back to Catholic as there too lies abuse. The problem of course is man , going back to Cain ( Cane ) and Able , man with its lusts that last . Doing so as men of the cloth where we look up to these people is the biggest let down and Welby quite rightly resigned albeit reluctantly and should now be followed by those other bishops involved . The Arch Bishop was of course Welby and we know that bishops can only move diagonally but don’t forget they do so back and forth.
God meanwhile sees everything, nothing can be hidden and one fine Judgment day Smyth will be held to account. We will never know if he asked for forgiveness which is the Mercy of God whose grace is beyond our comprehension. The whole thing is a mystery of course.
