What the Dickens.

In the run up to Christmas I’m going to blog on this man Charles Dickens who created over 900 characters in his 15 books so of which are the accompaniment to Christmas.

Besides living only 58 years (1812 to 1870 ) what is amazing is that he was not only a prolific writer but a live commentator on the Victorian times in Britain.

I feel close to Charles because not only did I live in his house on Primrose Hill ( he lived everywhere) but he married in the local church of my Chelsea boyhood St Lukes.

One piece of useless information is that the euphemism’ What the Dickens ‘ a murmur of surprise does not come from the man but originally featured with Shakespeare. Dickens is the nickname of the Devil and is a frustration exclaimed.

In the run up I may repeat some blogs of old which refer to some of the characters he created and more importantly surround us still today.
