Oliver Twist lives on.

His mother dies and off he goes to that Victorian workhouse an orphan boy who asks for more food. The ogre berates and the boy goes hungry. Dickens tells of his own experience and his father in debtors prison ends him up in the boot Polish factory.

Oliver eventually gets into bad company and crime at the command of the artful Dodger , Fagin under the wing of Bill Sykes the wife beater with bullseye the illegal dog.

Today there are many children who go to bed hungry, 1 in 5 children in the UK as families fail to make ends meet. Poverty in Britain is high. Artful dodgers are out there today and youth crime is at an all time high. Street thefts in corner shops, Rolex watches , mobile phones . One in ten will experience street crime in uk. The Police can’t keep up with it.

Meantime Fagin we meet daily and Bill Sykes joins the female abusers 1 in 7 in Britain and I in 4 in America. In France we just saw over 51 men abuse one woman from one tiny village where in previous times the Marquis de Sade lived. Nancy of course was bludgeoned to death and today women are fighting back with 28% abusing their partners. Bullseye dogs roam and the owners are eventually attacked and eaten by their canines.

Oliver Twist lives on today if you walk down any City road you will see him. I guess we are all guilty of wanting more but sometimes we find that less is more. Democracy gives choices , life menus, yet don’t forget that comes at a price. There are no free lunches.

Young Oliver is an innocent until polluted by life’s path and Dickens portrays good leading to evil. We don’t know where Oliver ended up but history repeats itself and the bowls are all out there . Last year over 60,000 children were involved in crime and arrested. Oliver Twist lives on.
