Christmas Britain 2020

Though I swept my Chimney this year Father Christmas was restricted from coming down it by Tier 4 regulation. Never mind Amazon took over and the cardboard kept coming in. Amazon are so busy that they don’t have even time to eat the mince pie. The Reindeers are also redundant their places taken by white van drivers guaranteed to take your wing mirrors off at any time.

The amazing thing about Christmas this year was the silence , the streets empty the shops shut and not a drop of Guinness in sight. Everything was closed down and humans only showed at 6 pm on Christmas Eve to ring a bell for the lonely. Talking of lonely we finally signed the EU isolation agreement called Brexit and after 4 and a half years we now really can’t go anywhere.

I received a marvellous gift from the NHS today in a test pack, not sure what for but apparently I’m of an age to qualify for the gift though my wife wouldn’t let me open it in case the kids thought I was cheating and not waiting for the morning. I also received a private mail from the NHS telling me that all my blood tests were fine ( imagine if they weren’t , nice timely gift from them ). Anyway well done NHS , brilliant and what nation on earth can offer their people this incredible service ( not free ) as people do often say but effectively a tax refund with some tender love at the end of the day.

2021 looks promising now we have vaccinations and that might lead to vacations which would fill the vacuums that Covid 19 brought us all. Meantime I can’t wait to open my presents to see the colours of my socks , to smell the aftershave and read that book which my kids have already told me I’m getting.

Prevented from seeing the Family and in laws , it’s not every year that the Government give you such a fine gift. Enjoy your day, Happy Christmas and thanks Jeff for clearing the streets. Thanks Boris for isolating us outside Europe and for bringing back that island feeling.

  1. I am going to choose to look on 2020 as a good year, one in which our Lord communicated with us directly and incessantly, whether we heard him or not. He is preparing us for 2021…

And I welcome what is next. I think.
