The other 9 11

The anomaly of American date formatting, month then day is perplexing. It may have originated from the Colonists who stuck with it as Europe moved towards day then month format in the 18th Century. Anyway it’s stuck and we are all stuck with it. The other 9 11 is to us other nations the 9th November and my research discovered that other great horrors occurred then as well as American 9 11 which meets its 20th Anniversary today.

Equally sadly 9th November 1938 witnessed Kristallnacht when the German Nazis avenged the murder of an official by a Jewish refugee and burned all things Jewish that night. This then led to the Holocaust and the extermination of 6 million people.

Whatever the date, whatever the numbers, man’s inexcusable behaviour towards man is seen both in History and in time present. Whatever the season history repeats itself and the answer to why is unlikely to ever be answered. We can however look to the other 9 11 and go to Psalm 91 1 where it says

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” … “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

For it is in His place and under His wing that we shall be safe, we shall rest and we will be protected. Mankind is likely to let you down however you arrange the numbers. So today as we bow our brow in remembrance of those that lost their lives that fateful day in New York , pray that prayer in Psalm 91 verse 1 and invite Him into your life as your Protector and Fortress from all life’s attacks. Now that alone will be a day to remember. He’s there waiting on your call and He will answer.
