1 Timothy 5 v 18 KJV

The above scripture from the King James Version of the Bible tells us that ‘ The labourer is worthy of his reward ‘ . In simple terms the workers, the employees and self employed deserve to get paid for what they do.

So far so good I think we are all singing from the same hymn sheet. In the early 1960s in America the Chief Executive ( the boss ) of a typical Company earned 15 times more than a non managerial worker. The guy managing the building creation will earn 15 times more than the guy that laid the bricks. Today in America the boss earns 200 times more than the non manager guy. That’s right 200 times more.

In America bosses earn on average $1million plus bonus which more often than not is double that. An average Starbucks employee earns $22,000 per annum and today they in New York formed a trade Union to fight for more which inevitably leads to higher coffee charge. In an exceptional case the Chairman of AMC , Adam Aron ( they show movies ) in 2020 earned $20,9m , double what he earned the previous year. A furloughed worker meantime ( the guy that clips the ticket ) earned $5,500 in the same year.

If Bosses in America earned a million dollars each less then the employees would get $400 more each per annum. One third of Americans would be unable to meet a $400 unexpected bill if they got it. That my friends is perspective and which is why the gulf rich and poor is widening. Unfortunately there will come a point where bosses and workers will fall into that chasm. That gulf, chasm or gap is called social unrest.

I cite America not because I’m against my good friends across the pond from the pound but because bosses in America on average earn twice what their European equivalent makes and 8 times more than Japanese bosses. The writing is on the wall ( sorry I’m not talking from Daniel here ) I’m saying watch out this is out of hand. Today inflation figures were announce in Europe over 5% and in America expect 8% later today. If wages are to keep pace with inflation surely someone will wake up and curb boss greed.

I call it greed because it is. I never met a rich person who admitted he / she had enough in fact quite the opposite they usually want more and inversely are very dissatisfied with life. This is not a socialist blogger but it is a blogger with a brain who sees that we need to adjust the scales and get some even up even if less becomes more with a content community rather than a contempt community. I’m just saying.

Have a great weekend.

  1. Nelson Rockefeller was once asked how much money it would take to make him happy. He said, “just a little bit more.“

I’m not sure if it is greed so much as it is selfishness … if someone offers you a better wine, you take it. The problem is that as a society we have become used to offering so much and expecting so little from those to whom we offer it.
