Morals and Ethics Compass

I am not a Philosopher though have thought lately of the difference between morals and ethics. Yes they are spelt differently for one but I broadly conclude that both embrace the differences between good and evil, right and wrong. The control mechanisms are within us and unless it starts there then and thereafter there is chaos is any society. The Law supposedly sets the parameters yet there is much within the Law that compromises both.

In America today there are over 40 million lawsuits filed each year. Invariably the lawsuits are about peoples differences and it seems that the system caters for mankind’s perpetual failing. Litigation in America seems part of the business model. Don’t want to pay, then go mediate and get a discount. Mediation is encouraged to reduce costs but in mediating the aggrieved party inevitably loses something and truth is discounted. This lack of moral or ethic corrodes society and inevitably leads to decline. The one lawyer for every 300 people in America keeps the legal system going and the rust increasing.

Morals disintegrate as the ever increasing global population can access pornography and the follower influencer culture to keep up with the hip, pump up the lip and each other pip in this competitive dog eat dog culture. Supposedly there is ethical investment but I have very little idea what that is. Drilling for any fossil fuel is what it’s honestly says on the tin whilst wind farms without constant and reliable wind is an untruth. Lending money at interest or usury is ethical in the eyes of the lender especially if it’s their money. Borrowing money is a choice not an obligation, that comes later.

Of course right and wrong are in the eyes of the beholder but we all know the difference. Equally good and evil often come in disguise and we soon find out which is which thereafter. Both moral and ethic need a Compass, a way to go to set the right way, do the right thing in any situation and avoid the dark that evil is. Good has a good feel and again rely on the inner steer and resist the alternate. Sometimes the needle on the Compass will go into an out of control spin, a sign to stop, pause and ponder not knowing what to do , then do nothing.

We don’t need Sue Gray or Police findings , we all know what happened. We don’t need war abroad we all know what that brings and if Putin gets out his compass he will do the right thing. NATO could invite Russia to join, now that’s lateral thinking and even if we have enemies staying close to them is wise. If we can avoid wrong and the evil we will get it right and in the end that’s for the good which makes sense. Let’s stop the litigation and do the right thing, let’s stop the partying at the office and let’s stop the war mongering. All this starts with you and me , the journey starts now. Try it.
