Smith

Just a silly note of interest today. The name Smith is an old Anglo Saxon name and a very common name in the west. It’s origin is from the German word ‘ smid ‘ which means to strike or hit.

Now we know that the blacksmith strikes the iron on the anvil. We also know that the actor Will Smith hit and striked out against a guy at the Oscar ceremony last week. Smith who is black man struck another black man and clearly he was living up to that German tradition of striking out. Will is a great actor and he won the Oscar for his portrayal of a Father. Will subsequently resigned from the Academy.

Just a thought for the day. The other Smith I dealt with is the newsagent W H Smith founded in 1782 by Walton Henry Smith who opened their first newsagent at Euston Station in 1848 and today is a Public Listed Company on the London Stock Exchange.

One Smith sells the news the other Smith made the news. As they always say where there’s a Will there’s a way yet violence is never the best means of expression and jaw jaw better than war war.
