Run out of Rant.

According to the Oxford Dictionary the word rant is speak or shout at length in an angry, impassioned way. I told my friend Andy yesterday over early morning coffee that ‘ I had run out of rant ‘ which he found very amusing. As he fell of his chair laughing I realized that I had been emptied of scorn , of comment and candor.

Post Brexit, Covid and musical chair Prime Ministers, Monarch changes etc , Falling pound, economic egg everywhere smashed like omelette, scrambled policies, hard boiled times and no longer over easy I was completely poached.

Our daily read , our intake of breaking news all bad news with not a happy ending in sight as we are told that misery and negative reports sell advertising that much needed ingredient to keep us all glued to screens like eco warriors to roads. There is perhaps nothing more fulfilling than a good rant , nothing more cathartic than a good moan but that perpetual whinge must stop.

I’ve run the race of rant and prefer to be thankful for what I’ve got not what I haven’t. I prefer to live a life when I see my glass half full. Then one finds content that balance that brings peace on this life road. I’m heading more for the service station these days where I can pause and reflect on the journey gone and the road ahead. Paul of Damascus fame told us in his letter to the Philippians chapter 4 to be content with what we have.

No longer will I get frustrated when I forget my password online or can’t find a pound coin to enter the hospital car park. No longer will I bemoan talking to an online robot about my mobile phone problem or despair when a neighbor two miles away objects to my planning application that then fails. I’ve run out of rant and want to praise those around me like the guys that hump those great big bins in the morning downpour or that nurse who goes the extra mile to bring comfort.

I love that waiter who doesn’t interject to ask if I want anything else as I’m eating or ask me if I have an allergy to anything other than life itself. I have grown to love the congestion and emissions charges as I enter the City to be squeezed into a 20mph lane then have pedal and power bikes whizzing around me as I fight for their survival.

Yes the finish line is here today, the rant race is over and I’m downing those negative newspaper reports that fill my mind and I’m out there looking for the good, looking for upside and celebrating life in all its colors. Have a great Sunday and look forward to your week ahead as it brings the new into you. Be thankful.
