The udder side of the argument.

Cows and other farm animals produce about 14% of human-induced climate emissions, and it is methane from their burps and manure that is seen as both the biggest concern and best opportunity for tackling global heating.

Reduction of methane by changing their feed is one option presently being considered by the UN. In that there is great resistance to do so from the Dairy Industries that dominate our daily fayre. Brazil and Argentina two of the world’s largest beef producers lead the argument ( of course they would ). The fact is vested interests play out first and their survival and employment importance protected the udder side of the argument.

This weeks news that Telecom giants BT and Vodaphone are laying of 66,000 employees by 2030 is worrying. The onslaught of Artificial Intelligence and Robotic production puts human and cow at risk. The possibility of sourcing new food items away from dairy is a topic close to the Scientists hearts. I say this as we are rapidly accelerating towards the 1.5 degree Celsius increase in world temperatures which threaten our very existence. We can mask up the cows in a Covid cow lookalike and capture the emissions but this is an unnatural solution to a natural fact.

The cow is here to stay it’s not mooving away unless we take the bull by the horns and cull. No thanks no cruel cull like we’ve seen before by reckless scientists who probably don’t take milk in their tea. We don’t want any teat for tat arguments but there is an inevitability of dystopian outcome. Alas don’t forget God’s in control as Psalm. 50 reminds us He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. You may have herd all this before but today is May and climate warming seemed a distant fact turning the heating on at home last night and being cold on my morning walk.

I’m more worried about the jobs losses and without being a Luddite I’m very concerned with the mechanic technologies that are coming down the lines. As for the cow in the car park this morning we had a good chat together about what’s happening. The Cow was optimistic and very matter of fact black and white saying he was ready to take the heat. The cow’s cousins in Spain had been in touch about the lack of water and where was the rain in Spain. His China chum was locked in the barn on a re-education course but speaking off the hoof was convinced that nature would find its way. Meantime the Cows in Argentina reported that business was good and that they would steak their own lives on it.

Back in London the lawyers at Slaughter in May were stunned by the number of class actions against Farmers and gross exterminations. Climate change is not here to stay but here to change and the cows don’t want to take full responsibility. They say they are not cowards and will defend their rights to the bitter end.
