i Know times are hard out there but any donation would be gratefully received, “THANK YOU”!
The Matt Hampson Foundation inspires and supports young people seriously injured through sport through its unique Get Busy Living centre in rural Leicestershire. The centre provides expert physiotherapy, specialist personal training, support, mentoring and advice to people suffering a life-changing injury. The centre’s doors were opened in 2018 by Founder and ex-England and Leicester Tigers rugby player Matt Hampson, who himself experienced a life-changing injury in 2005.

The above are the words of Matt Grimes in the photograph above who is walking the 111 miles on crutches to help others. Men like Matt matter because despite their own hardships they literally step up and step out to help those that need help. These are not selfish men neither greedy or gorging , men that show up when the going gets tough. His story is moving but instead of self pity he walks out daily and I’ve seen him train to do this. Through giving we receive and we pray for his miracle healing.
Today we read in our newspapers of the ex Liverpool soccer player Graeme Souness who swam the 21 miles English Channel for a young girl with a skin disease whose bandages must be changed three times a day. Graeme’s swim has raised £1m and I urge through this blog for those to use the link and give to help Matt’s cause. His target was a £1000 and he was willing to walk for that. Thankfully he has beaten his target but it’s not just about the money it’s about the heart of the man. Today more than ever we need men like Matt in our Society , real heroes that I for one have the highest respect. These are the men that should be honoured , these are the men we should look to.
Matt has just completed his third day in the soaring heat, his body aches but he moves on followed by men of sporting distinction from the great game of Rugby where serious injuries abound but where real men are found. Please tap your finger on the link and give what you can. Men like Matt matter and we need to support them.
Hi it’s Matt here on the long walk!
I’m not at the end of day 3 yet, I’ve been walking since 5am, day one took me 15 hours!!
Today I checked my phone for the first time today, I had just received and amazing donation it bought tears to my eyes and energy to my heart, it will carry me over the line tonight!! I’ve lost a toe nail already but the human spirit is so much greater than you think it is! I stopped for some water and checked my phone again, it was here I read this blog, again my heart filled with energy and my eyes with tears, my stride lengthened and all the spasms and aches and pains left me instantly, I walked the best I’ve walked all day. So much gratitude for the donations and this moving wonderful blog! Thank you
My heart is full
Matt (aka “slow walker” ) as I’ve be named by a couple of rugby greats
“Imagine if all our hearts were full! Imagine what we could achieve”?
Heartfelt thanks
