Just for a moment.

On a grey cloudy October day these two birds flew my way. There were three at first overhead but one nosedived as they sought stray rodents in the meadows beneath. They glided on the air streams , nature’s free passage for these birds in flight. As they flew they ushered in a peace upon the field as though messengers sent to remind one of the beauty this world possesses. Just for a moment there was peace.

In another territory not that far away they could have been mistaken for fighter jets on mission to bring destruction and to break the peace. Those men in their flying machine laden with tools of tumult created just in that moment of evil.

Alas today it was a flight of peace except for the rodents of course preyed upon in life’s food chains. Perhaps for every gain there is loss as life’s books get balanced and conversely for every loss a gain. As I watched, smaller birds darted through the air and at times it looked like rush hour to and fro each bird with purpose and function.

For just a moment I thought of us each out there functioning and with different purpose gathering the moments that amount to life. For some moments are good , some bad but ironed out what do they look like for you. Often like a grey sky we bear passage but today this grey sky was beautiful and a canopy to cheer. Just for a moment.

As I stood the roar of a Chinook Helicopter roared closely by reminding me that in life we must be prepared for war and ready for peace. Just for a moment I forgot that, but I mustn’t.
