Day of Birth

Yes it’s the Blogger’s birthday. Getting on and getting older , aren’t we all. The fact is we need to grow old gleefully and gracefully. The good news is that despite passing three score and ten I’m still here fit and well. I keep mobility and walk to restaurants and surgery freely. On Sunday I got off a plane at so called London Gatwick Airport ( in Sussex ) then almost walked to London. Completely ridiculous three quarters of a mile to the Customs post. Seriously old people can’t do that and they should warn people.

The Zimmer frame above is not needed and my personal trainer says I look good but I am paying him. Never mind the Government wrote to me first light with a speed ticket for 35mph in a 30mph limit. What a start to the day. Not doing social media as I’m linked out not linked in all the well wishes come through my wife’s device and many came. Very grateful. My violinist friend sent me a happy birthday rendition and thankfully didn’t get any e cards which drive me nuts.

My wonderful daughter took me out for dinner last night with the cake below. Yes I know I had to cut out sugar but the cake was tiny and though the spoonful enjoyable Oliver Twist would have also asked for more.

The other two people in the restaurant were almost forced to sing me happy birthday by the Turkish Waiter who felt pity for me and brought some baclava too. One of the two people ( a woman ) gritted her teeth and did not sing the other woman went solo along with my wife and daughter. I cringed with embarrassment with the scene and on exit the quiet woman barked a ‘ happy birthday’ to me. Seriously I’m so grateful but discussing the last days and end of my life over shish kebab and meze takes patience.

The secret to long life is laughter and the ability to see humour in all and to not take ourselves and everything else so seriously. I love to laugh and though it seems a diminished act these days go for it folks. There’s only one way to the exit door and the sand in the timer runs fast but we keep going. The grim reaper is grim but I’m looking forward to the next 20 years and a bit longer. You’re a long time dead according to my old Dad.
