It’s Bank Holiday in Britain time to get away. Tried to leave on Friday but 30 mile tailback on the M5 Motorway convinced me it is the end of happy motoring. Turned back home and left at 5am on Saturday morning. Arrived in Lands End Cornwall 7 hours later , 3112 miles from America and 874 miles from John OGroats ( a pained Scottish Crofter ).
Surrounded by the Atlantic on all sides I took several deep breaths of air and tried to revive my mind from all the dross left behind. As I sat there I pondered is it the end of life as we know it. Having been at Witts End several times in my life I was now at Lands End.
On Friday my friend completed a Speed Awareness Course online with 10 others , taking the course rather than penalty points on the licence. One of the attendees could not speak English and an interpreter had to be found. With translation the other 9 were subject to a one hour delay. The man who could not speak or read English told the Course that his day job was a bus driver. Is it the end of Britain as we knew it ? A bus driver lost at a roundabout, can you imagine ? Later on a Cornish beach after one hour trying to park I walked down to the beach only to find about 90% of those on it were South Indian, talking in unknown Hindi tongue. Where was I ? Is it the end of bucket and spade, sweet rock and mucky postcards. No I later found it was a Hindi Festival. Is it the end of the life i knew?

All was not lost there was hope. As I drove country lanes narrow and green there were lots of Churches ( empty but there ) and arriving at Mousehole ( yes look it up ) an evangelist was playing his guitar in the harbour heckled by a chorus of non believers and vehemently abused by one old woman. Is it the end of Christian Britain ? When one gets out of London you realise that Britain had left , Brexit switched the lights off , Covid locked us all away and Labour not want but need to tax every that moves. Is it the end of Britain ?

In nature we can find hope, a walk along the beach on a Sunday morning and the realisation that we can swim away join the fishes. All at the bottom of the sea , no translators, no buses , no evangelists , no traffic jams, Brexit and more. The end that real end , into eternity in that great escape for us all. We traverse a one way street , I’m thankful for that.
Amen!!!!
